Formulating a question that targets the goal of your research is a challenging but essential task. The question plays a crucial role in all other aspects of the research, including the determination of the research design and theoretical perspective to be applied, which data will be collected, and which tools will be used for analysis. It is therefore essential to take the time to ensure that the research question addresses what you actually want to study. Doing so will increase your likelihood of obtaining meaningful results. A. In this first component of the Course Project, you formulate questions to address a particular nursing issue or problem. You use the PICOT model—patient/population, intervention/issue, comparison, and outcome—outlined in the Learning Resources to design your questions.

To prepare: 1. Review the article, “Formulating the Evidence Based Practice Question: A Review of the Frameworks,” found in the Learning Resources for this week. Focus on the PICOT model for guiding the development of research questions. 2. Review the section beginning on page 71 of the course text, titled, “Developing and Refining Research Problems” in the course text, which focuses on analyzing the feasibility of a research problem. 3. Reflect on an issue or problem that you have noticed in your nursing practice. Consider the significance of this issue or problem. 4. Generate at least five questions that relate to the issue which you have identified. Use the criteria in your course text to select one question that would be most appropriate in terms of significance, feasibility, and interest. Be prepared to explain your rationale. 5. Formulate a preliminary PICO question—one that is answerable—based on your analysis. What are the PICO variables (patient/population, intervention/issue, comparison, and outcome) for this question? Note: Not all of these variables may be appropriate to every question. Be sure to analyze which are and are not relevant to your specific question. B. Using the PICOT variables that you determined for your question, develop a list of at least 10 keywords that could be used when conducting a literature search to investigate current research pertaining to the question. To complete: Write a 3- to 4-page paper that includes the following: A. A summary of your area of interest, an identification of the problem that you have selected, and an explanation of the significance of this problem for nursing practice B. The 5 questions you have generated and a description of how you analyzed them for feasibility C. Your preliminary PICOT question and a description of each PICOT variable relevant to your question D. At least 10 possible keywords that could be used when conducting a literature search for your PICOT question and a rationale for your selections

Discuss how each concept has been illustrated in Shalof’s professional practice stories. Describe what these concepts mean according to nursing related literature. Using course readings and relevant nursing literature to support your ideas, discuss how and why these examples from the novel reflect each of the 3 concepts associated with professionalism in nursing practice.

Professionalism in Nursing

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW:
Story telling and narratives are an effective way to gain an awareness or insight into personal knowing by considering the experiences of individuals. “Narrative helps us to hear the hearts of the persons who come to our care as well as helps us hear our own hearts.” (Nisker, 2004, p. 294).
This assignment requires you to explore concepts that exemplify professionalism in nursing practice by reading stories written by Tilda Shalof, a Registered Nurse. Below you will find a list of examples of some concepts that are considered part of professional nursing practice.
Responsibility Accountability Advocacy
Professional Caring Respect Privacy
Truthfulness Client well-being Knowledge
Leadership Therapeutic Nurse-Client Relationship Mutuality
Person-centered care

This assignment will enable students to:
1. Identify and describe concepts that demonstrate professionalism in nursing practice.
2. Using examples from the book identify 3 concepts that are part of professionalism in nursing practice and describe what they mean according to relevant nursing literature.
3. Develop the ability to express thoughts and ideas in written scholarly format, consistent with the criteria for academic scholarly papers. Refer to the BScN Program Handbook Guidelines for Grading Scholarly Papers

You have worked with Tomika for the past 5 years. Tomika shares with you that she has resigned and plans to work in an agency that installs telemonitoring equipment into the homes of those with chronic illnesses. Nurses monitor the patients using the equipment with the goal of detecting problems before patients need to be readmitted to the hospital. Tomika will be working from her own home, with occasional meetings at the agency.

She would not be visiting her patients in their homes, but rather would be assessing and interacting with them via videoconferencing. She tells you that there are still job openings and encourages you to apply. You are intrigued by this, and decide to investigate whether telenursing would be a good choice for you, too. Is telenursing in your future? Directions 1. research (find evidence), compose, and type a scholarly paper that describes telenursing as described above, and whether it is a good fit for you. Reflect on what you have learned in this class to date about technology, privacy rights, ethical issues, interoperability, patient satisfaction, consumer education, and other topics. Your text by Hebda (2013, Chapter 25) discusses telehealth in detail. However, your focus should be from the professional nurse’s role in telenursing. Do not limit your review of the literature to only what you read in your text. Nurses in various specialties need to know about the advantages and disadvantages of telenursing as it applies to their patients. For example, when you discharge a patient from an acute care setting, will a telenursing service assist that individual with staying out of the hospital? You may need to apply critical-thinking skills to development of your paper. In the conclusion of your paper, describe your current employment situation, and whether a job in telenursing would, or would not, fit with your career goals and life situation once you graduate from Chamberlain. 2. Use Microsoft Word and APA formatting to develop your paper. Consult the Publication manual of the APA, 6th edition if you have questions, for example, margin size, font type and size (point), use of third person, and so forth. Take advantage of the writing service, Smarthinking, which is accessed by clicking on the link called the Tutor Source, found under the Course Home area. Also, review and use the various documents in Doc Sharing related to APA. 3. The length of the paper should be four to five pages, excluding the title page and the reference page. Limit your references to key sources. 4. The paper should contain an introduction that catches the attention of the reader with interesting facts and supporting sources of evidence, which need to be mentioned as in-text citations. Keep in mind that APA guidelines state you are not to call this an Introduction, but you should include it at the beginning of your paper. The Body should present the advantages and disadvantages of telenursing from your perspective as an employee, and the patient’s perspective as a recipient of the care nurses provide. The Conclusion and Recommendations should summarize your findings and state your position on whether you will apply for a position with the agency.
