An annotated bibliography is a brief summary and analysis of the journal article reviewed. For more information on annotated bibliographies please visit Purdues OWL: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/01/
A total of four annotated bibliographies are to be submitted (not to exceed one page each). The articles must come from nursing scholarly literature and may not be older than 5 years since publication. Please note that the articles must be research based and reflect a quantitative methodology (review our reading assignments). Web pages, magazines, textbooks, and other books are not acceptable.

Each annotation must address the following critical elements:
1.Explanation of the main purpose and scope of the cited work
2.Brief description of the research conducted
3.Value and significance of the work (e.g., studys findings, scope of the research project) as a contribution to the subject under consideration
4.Possible shortcomings or bias in the work
5.Conclusions or observations reached by the author
6.Summary as to why this research lends evidence to support the potential problem identified specific to your role option.

Discuss the pharmacology of the substance of abuse, and all the usual pharmacological management options for the long-term management, for your chosen case scenario

A guide on how to reference, including Vancouver and APA styles are available through the University of Newcastle weblinks:
Question
please discuss the pharmacology of the substance of abuse, and all the usual pharmacological management options for the long-term management, for your chosen case scenario. In particular:
What is the pharmacology of the substance being abused, paying particular attention to the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and the mechanism of how the substance produces dependence and/or tolerance?
What are the pharmacological agent(s) used to manage the substance of abuse long-term?
Please note that students are expected to choose at least one pharmacological agent for their chosen case scenario. Also note that you should only discuss the long-term pharmacological management options of the substance that is abused and not any acute, withdrawal management options (unless they also are used for long-term management). Presentation of some aspects of pharmacology information in table format will be accepted. Students should take careful note of the marking rubric when writing their assignment.
case scenario.
Cassidy is a 40-year-old female who is seeing you today for advice around alcohol consumption following encouragement by friends. Cassidy is currently separated from her husband and they have two children aged 8 and 10. She is working part time as an Assistant in Nursing and enjoys her job. With the exception of staying at home when the children were younger, she has always maintained employment. Cassidy has limited family support as she has one brother and both her parents are ageing and unable to help look after the children. Her family members are reported to be social drinkers, though her maternal grandfather was described as a heavy drinker.
Cassidy started drinking alcohol socially from the age of 16, with regular drinking (mainly on weekends) occurring 7 years ago, 12 months after the birth of her last child. For the past year, she has been drinking between 2 to 3 litres of wine across the week, with her alcohol consumption being heavier on the weekends and non-work days. On these days, her drinking is beginning to start around lunch time, stops when the school day ends and recommences when she is cooking tea. On work days, Cassidy begins drinking whilst cooking tea. On all nights, her drinking session usually

does not end until she goes to bed. During your assessment, you note that Cassidy is concerned about: starting to be snappy with the children; not being the mother she used to be; wanting to drink more; and finding it difficult to get up in the morning.

Explain the problem by using informal or formal frameworks, models or concepts, and/or theories. Identify reasons or assumptions used to develop the interventions

All assignments must be APA format 6th edition. The purpose of the assignment is to illustrate how I can apply the essential components of reporting knowledge about improving the value, quality, and safety in healthcare. The format is based on the revised standards for quality improvement reporting excellence SQUIRE, http://www.squire-statement.org and Lau, 2015.

Introduction: Why is this an identified problem at your healthcare facility? Define the problem. Describe what needs to be accomplished. Explain your interest in the gap. Describe what the reader should learn from your reading assignment.

Current knowledge. Summarize current knowledge about the problem including relevant within the last 5 years studies or sources at least 5.

Rationale: Explain the problem by using informal or formal frameworks, models or concepts, and/or theories. Identify reasons or assumptions used to develop the interventions

Aim: State the purpose/goal of the project with identified key stakeholders. The overall purpose/goal must be supported with well-formulated, measurable outcomes statements clearly differentiating between process and outcome

Change: Use the PDSA cycle to facilitate change in your identified setting and decision making, process analysis, idea creation. See Josh et al, chapter 4 & Lau 2015

Gap analysis: create an analysis by using at least one of the following quality tools. You may choose from 5 Whys tool, flowchart, fishbone diagram, or failure modes and effects analysis and others. Articulate the purpose for the selected quality tools and discuss your rationale for the choice and how you anticipate the application of the tools sequentially
