Public health professionals play various roles including being expert witnesses. This case study presents a situation where you are called upon to provide expertise.Consider the following scenario:A major agribusiness is interested in opening a beef confined animal feeding operation (CAFO) in your community. The local government is very interested in seeing the operation established because it will generate employment and income for the community.Using the readings for this module Argosy University online library resources and the Internet explain the health impacts the CAFO can have on the community in a 6-page research paper. In your research paper at a minimum make sure you address the following:Your paper should be written in proper research paper format with full APA compliance to include a title page header page numbers abstract use of Level I and II headings in-text citations and a properly formatted references page.Assignment 2 Grading Criteria Discuss both natural and man-made health issues that may arise from the CAFO.Discuss both short- and long-term effects individual and community effects and environmental effects.Explain the legal standards surrounding CAFO as they are in the United States and explain how the local government agencies would respond to help alleviate or mitigate any health risks.Propose specific efforts the community can make to provide risk reduction risk control and risk communication helping to mitigate any negative effects of the CAFO in the community.Writing ComponentsOrganization:Write with clear organization appropriate to required format including introduction thesis/main idea transitions and conclusion when appropriate.Usage and Mechanics:Write using proper grammar spelling usage and mechanics to provide smooth readability.APA Elements:Include proper attribution paraphrasing and quotations of all sources.Audience and Communication:Write specifically to key audience using terminology and tone appropriate for the audience.Writing is focused. Public health professionals must be involved in numerous planning activities that are related to emergency public health responses

Public health professionals must be involved in numerous planning activities that are related to emergency public health responses. This aspect of environmental health is fast becoming a highly popular sector. Events related to natural disasters and responses to terror attacks over the past decade have become very real. This assignment addresses emergency public health responses that are capable of providing meaningful help to communities when such events become evident.Consider the following:The city of Centervale has a population of 75 000 and continues to grow. It is located approximately forty-five miles outside of a huge metropolitan area of over two million people.Centervale has been developing their local disaster management plan since the terrorist attacks of September 11 2001. The city elects a mayor and city council which contracts a city manager.City officials and planners have been following the latest protocols as provided for instate and federal guidelines for a community of its size and configuration. However the citys plans have mostly focused on responses to terrorism threats. Plans show incomplete responses to other public health emergencies or natural disasters. For the most part they have continued to rely on local first responder protocols that have been in place for years. You have been invited as a Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness specialist to make a proposal to the city council in the hopes that they will hire you to help Centervale fully develop its plans to include protocols for a full and measured response to other disasters of a public health nature including natural disasters. The city council is allowing you forty-five minutes for your presentation. Keep in mind the scalability factor for the size of population and location. Your presentation must include a risk-based all-hazards and capability-approach response. Be sure to address the following in your presentation:Use the National Preparedness Guidelines (NPG) as a starting point in researching relevant information.Complete the following:Ensure you support your arguments with examples and scholarly references.Use the slide speakers notes to clarify further explanations. You may also use the audio function in your presentation.Develop a 10-slide presentation in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.Grading Criteria:Identify two public health threats to Centervale one that arises from terrorism and one that arises from natural disasters.CO 1 2 4PO 1.b 2.a 4.aILO 1 2 3 5 6Create a Common Target overview that outlines basic planning and communications.CO 3 6 7PO 1.b 2.a 3.b 4.a 5.a 6.aILO 1 2 3 5 6Identify basic prevention strategies Centervale should conduct.CO 2 3 7PO 1.b 2.a 3.b 6.aILO 1 2 3 6Recommend specific protection strategies to mitigate the effects the disasters have on public health. Significant Contributions to Public Health

Significant Contributions to Public Health – Part II
This is a continuation of your final project, which you started in Week 3. This last piece involves an analysis of how your individual’s contribution from the past continues to contribute to today’s public health system and how it might guide future work within the industry. As you recall, in week 3, you researched an individual and their contribution to community and public health. To begin, you need to review the feedback given to you from Week 3. Then, make the necessary revisions to Part I of this project. Then, you will be adding the second half to your project.
Follow this outline to help formulate your paper or presentation:
ACTION: Make sure you review all the feedback from your Week 3 (Part I) assignment and apply any necessary revisions. Your week 3 assignment should have included each of the following elements:

GRADED ELEMENT : Describe your selected person’s experience
GRADED ELEMENT : Analyze the climate of the time period in terms of political, socioeconomic, environmental and technological context in which this person worked.
GRADED ELEMENT : Examine the personal beliefs of your person that prompted this work.
GRADED ELEMENT : Examine how this individual overcame any adversities to succeed in his/her task.
GRADED ELEMENT : Describe the final outcome of this individual’s contribution to community and/or public health.
GRADED ELEMENT : Explain what his/her contribution did for overall community and/or public health at the time.
GRADED ELEMENT : Explain why this contribution was so important at that particular point in history.

ACTION: Think about the individual’s contribution to community/public health

GRADED ELEMENT : Analyze the impact of your individual’s contribution on today’s public health system.

HELP: You are asking “what happened as a result of this contribution at the national and community level?” For example, some elements you could address include:

did it change attitudes
did it change protocols and policies
did behavior change result
did it add/eliminate laws

GRADED ELEMENT : Analyze how this contribution is still relevant today

HELP: Was this contribution only applicable at the time it occurred, or is it still applied today? Why or why not? Explain your response

GRADED ELEMENT : Examine how this contribution could support or be expanded for future community and public health benefits

HELP: Using solid critical thinking, look at the historical value of the contribution and examine how it could be used for the future (is it applicable to another health issue, can it lead to more policy change, could it promote advocacy work or public health laws, etc.)
