What are the health problems or issues currently impacting your community?

Health Care Programs

The development of diseases or the state of wellness and health are influenced by social, economic, environmental, and demographic factors of a population. As such, population statistics play a major role in determining the health status of a community or the distribution of diseases within that community.

You are the public health officer or health care administrator in charge of finding a prevention and intervention program to address public health issues in your community. You have been asked by your supervisor to create a report on the public health issue that you will be working for.

Based on your findings, express your views on the following:

  • What are the health problems or issues currently impacting your community?
  • What is the demographic data of your community as given on the U.S. Census Bureau website?
  • According to the data related to morbidity, mortality, and prevalence, what are the incidence rates of the diseases in your community?
  • What are the health care requirements of the community?
  • How do you plan to assist in the prevention and intervention programs of your community?

Depression on Children and Teens

Now that you have extensively investigated your public health issue, it’s time to apply some of the theories that you’ve been learning to your selected topic. For this week, you must identify at least two theories or theoretical frameworks that can be used to understand your public health issue. After you have selected the theories or frameworks, write a paper in which you examine the theories and apply them to the topic for your final project. In your paper:

Examine the origin and history of each theory or framework. Demonstrate how each theory or framework applies to your topic. Provide at least two examples for each theory or framework. Your paper must be a minimum of 1,000 words in length. There are three (3) types of boards of health.  Which one would be more instrumental in influencing the implementation of a smoke-free policy in a community?

  • There are three (3) types of boards of health.  Which one would be more instrumental in influencing the implementation of a smoke-free policy in a community?  Name one other public health policy a board of health might advance in a community.
  • External Constituencies are an important part of public health practice.  Please review the aspects of External Constituencies for Rural, Suburban and Urban agencies.  Based on your personal preferences, which type agency would you prefer to work and why?
  • Competency Statements:  What are they?  How can they help a health department strive to meet the intent of their mission, vision and values?
  • Academic institutions can play important roles in workforce related activities for both the employees of local health departments and the students in public health programs.  Identify any two (2) roles and share your insight why these two roles are important.

DESCRIBE THE PROCESSES BY WHICH CHEMICALS MOVE THROUGH THE ENVIRONMENT

BOS 4201, Toxicology 1 Course Learning Outcomes for Unit III Upon completion of this unit, students should be able to: 3. Assess the environmental risk from the presence of chemical compounds based on their toxicity category. 3.1 Describe the processes by which chemicals move through the environment. 3.2 Identify the factors affecting the fate of chemicals in the air. 3.3 Identify the factors affecting toxicity in a population. 7. Summarize the impact of exposure to various types of environmental pollution.Unit Lesson This unit discusses the risks to the environment from chemical contamination. Historic incidents are explored in addition to the factors that affect the fate of chemicals in the environment. In the past it was thought that dilution was the solution to pollution. Chemicals were released into the environment and it was thought that these chemicals would just blow away, until researchers found persistent chemicals in locations where they were not being used. As this became known, new technologies were invented to capture or reduce the amounts of chemicals. Some chemicals are found almost everywhere in our environment. They enter our food chain and can accumulate in animals. As humans, we are at the top of the food chain and the breast-feeding infant is at the highest level. It has been theorized that they are the most exposed group to environmental contaminants. Chapter 5: Environmental Pollutants and Their Fate Pollution is defined as the any change in the characteristic of the air, water, or soil that will adversely affect the health of an organism. A pollutant is any substance released into the environment that may cause adverse effects. The ecosystem is complex, pollutants enter into the ecosystem through discharges into the atmosphere, contamination of land, and entry into water (Richards & Bourgeois, 2014, p. 89). Some examples of common pollutants include:  gases (nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide),  metals (lead and mercury),  organics (benzene and toluene),  noise,  photochemical oxidants (ozone), and  radioactive waste. UNIT III STUDY GUIDE Environmental Risks BOS 4201, Toxicology 2 The fate of chemicals in the environment is affected by the process in which chemicals are moved and transformed in the environment. The processes include:  persistence in air,  persistence in water,  persistence in soil,  reactivity and degradation,  migration in ground water, and  bioaccumulation in aquatic or terrestrial organisms. The persistence of a chemical in the environment is the ability of a chemical to remain unchanged in a particular environment.
