Explain what forensic evaluations are and what role they play in criminal profiling

Question description

This assignment includes 1 annotated outline and Bibliography and then the final 15 page paper

For this project, you are the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Executive Director of the International Association of Chiefs of Police has asked you to provide him or her with a white paper on criminal profiling. The Executive Director wishes to encourage all police agencies to use this valuable resource, but the IACP wants an update on the procedure since it has been around now for approximately 40 years. There is also concern with using the term profiling, as it has taken on some new negative connotations.

The annotated outline and bibliography gives your instructor an opportunity to provide feedback and direction on your paper before it is due. The feedback is given with the intent to provide directions in areas that need improvement, clarification, or additional support. Therefore, your outline and bibliography must contain sufficient detail upon which to base feedback.

Create an annotated outline and bibliography that addresses each of the project objectives. Include the following:

  • For each major heading, write several descriptive sentences or a short descriptive paragraph to explain how this section of your paper relates to the project objectives.
  • For minor subheadings, write a sentence or two of description.
  • A minimum of 10 peer-reviewed journal articles published within the past fourteen years, unless it is considered seminal work. For each, include a three to five sentence summary explaining how it relates to the topic of the paper. You may wish to blend the references (bibliographic material and references into the outline itself or list the bibliography at the end).
  • Be sure that each project objective is addressed.

As a formative assignment, the Annotated Outline and Bibliography provides the opportunity to gather resources, organize the content of your paper, and receive feedback from your instructor before writing the paper.

In your White Paper on Criminal Profiling:

  • Describe criminal profiling.
  • Explain the various methods used in criminal profiling.
  • Discuss psychopathy as it pertains to criminal behavior.
  • Illustrate the predatory behaviors based on crime scene behavior evidence.
  • Explain the predatory behaviors.
  • Discuss what role forensic victimology plays in criminal profiling.
  • Explain what forensic evaluations are and what role they play.
  • Explain the legal and ethical issues involving criminal profiling
  • Be sure to address the concerns over the term profiling. Is there a new or better term?
  • Discuss the legal and ethical issues involved with criminal profiling. Be sure you have provided a detailed response that clearly shows the entire process of criminal profiling.
  • The FBI has their own method, but for the purpose of this paper you will need to decide if there is a particular method you suggest to the IACP—be it the FBI method or otherwise. You will need to explain your thought process. If you do not recommend one method over another, explain this as well.

Describe the focus and foundational research of social psychology.

Question description

Objective 4: Describe the focus and foundational research of social psychology.

Social psychology is a very interesting field; it is full of applicable and fascinating research that looks at you (and everyone else) from a slightly different perspective. Most students are spell bound by this research and application (as was the world during it’s time of release). For Christians, it’s an outstanding perspective to understanding the events leading us through Holy Week and to the cross. It also helps us understand the inspirational parable of the Good Samaritan. Consider this as you watch video clips for this assignment.

Learning Activity #6: Psychology Term Paper

  • Read Chapter 12 in your textbook.
  • Watch the following videos:
  • Soloman Asch’s conformity study (explained by Philip Zombardo)
  • Milgram’s Obedience Study (allow the Nazi concentration horrors portrayed to bring you understanding and compassion for those who suffered). This is hosted by Milgram himself and contains foreign subtitles, but is in English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOYLCy5PVgM
  • Zimbaros’s TED talk on the Psychology of Evil:
  • This explains the bystander effect hosted by Zimbardo as well as the application of being an agent of social change: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW2xszD-zBM
  • Write a five to seven-page double spaced (1250-1750 word) paper not including title page and reference page (no abstract require) that addresses the following:
  • Formatting, including the title and reference pages is to be APA compliant. Use the 6th edition APA template under course documents on the course home page and consult the Paper Writing rubric in your course syllabus. For additional help, access the OWL Purdue APA website, including a sample paper.
  • What is the perspective of social psychology in regards to an individual’s behavior? Discuss the three main areas in about one page (250 words).
  • Discuss the power of group influence, highlighting the research done by Asch and Milgram, in about one page (250 words).
  • Discuss in about one page (250 words), the power of roles and prejudices as seen by social psychologists, highlighting the study done by Zimbardo.
  • Discuss de-individuation, bystander intervention, and altruism in about one page (250 words). Relate these concepts to their presence online, particularly on social media.
  • Describe through the eyes of Social psychology, the events of Holy Week and the Parable of the Good Samaritan in about one page (250 words).
  • Finally, in about half a page (125 words) reflect on the topics discussed Chapter 12 and the video clips. Did anything provoke a strong reaction or epiphany? Focus on how you will apply this information to your everyday life.
  • In addition to your textbook, include two or three additional sources from the Internet. Only use websites that end in .org, .edu. or .gov so you know you are getting trust-worthy information.
