Students: Be sure to read the criteria, by which your paper/project will be evaluated, before you write, and again after you write.

For your paper, you will include FOUR scholarly references. For each resource, you will provide an APA style citation, brief summary of the findings presented in the resource, and a discussion of the relationship between the article content and your topic.

Paper Topic: Depression

Example 1.

Brief summary:

This review article explores the relationship between various lifestyle factors and depression. Some of these lifestyle factors include dietary, exercise, and other stress-reduction practices such as meditation. For example, there is ample evidence that exercise significantly reduces depressive symptoms. In addition, mindfulness meditation has been shown to affect brain structure and increase serotonin levels. Furthermore, there is a strong relationship between sleep and depression levels, with one study showing that individuals with insomnia were twice as likely to become depressed as non-insomniacs. Many of these lifestyle “therapies” provide a safe and inexpensive alternative to medications. This paper is important because it highlights potential steps individuals can take to prevent and manage depression.

Relationship to topic (how it relates to my topic and what I will write about):

In my paper, I will write about depression, including its symptoms and causes. This article directly relates to my paper topic because it discusses treatments for depression. I will discuss other traditional therapies including various medications, talk therapies, and electric shock therapy. Next I will discuss evidence from this article that shows how lifestyle changes may be incorporated into any prevention or treatment plan for depression.

Provide a historical context and identify the major theorists for each perspective. Assess the trends in psychotherapy integration.

Literature Review

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read the Ryder, Ban, & Chentsova-Dutton (2011) “Towards a Cultural-Clinical Psychology,” American Psychological Association (2014) “Guidelines for Prevention in Psychology,” Hage, et al. (2007) “Walking the Talk: Implementing the Prevention Guidelines and Transforming the Profession of Psychology,” and Rivera-Mosquera, et al. (2007) “Prevention Activities in Professional Psychology: A Reaction to the Prevention Guidelines” articles.

Clinical and counseling psychology is a dynamic field that is constantly evolving and striving toward better treatment options and modalities. In this literature review, you will explore and integrate psychological research into a literature review, addressing current trends in three major areas of clinical and counseling psychology: assessment, clinical work, and prevention.

In your review, include the following headings, and address the required content.

Assessment
Support this section with information from the Ryder et al. (2011) article “Towards a Cultural-Clinical Psychology” and at least one additional peer-reviewed article from the Ashford University Library.

  • Compare the assessments currently in use by clinical and counseling psychologists.
  • Explain the trend towards cultural-clinical psychology and the suitability of clinical assessments with diverse clients.

Clinical work
Support this section using a minimum of three peer-reviewed articles from the Ashford University Library. The recommended articles for this week may be useful in generating your response.

  • Compare and contrast technical eclecticism, assimilative integration and theoretical integration.
  • Provide a historical context and identify the major theorists for each perspective.
  • Assess the trends in psychotherapy integration.
  • List three pros and cons for each perspective, sharing which perspective most closely aligns with your own.
  • Analyze the major trends in psychology and explain the connection between evidenced-based practices and psychotherapy integration.

Prevention
Review the “Guidelines for Prevention in Psychology” (American Psychological Association, 2014), and support this section with information from the Hage, et al. Final Project Annotated Outline

[WLOs: 3] [CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4]

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review your completed Week 1 and Week 2 assignments, and familiarize yourself with the DSM-5 by accessing it in the Ashford University Library. Look up your selected psychological disorder in the DSM-5 (this is the same as the disorder you wrote about in the Week 1 and Week 2 assignments) to determine the diagnostic criteria, as well as other current information and terminology, and use this resource as one of your references (be sure to use in-text citations for the information used). With the exception of the DSM-5, you may cite and reference course materials such as the textbook, required or recommended reading, or multimedia, but these will not fulfill the source requirement.

Please be sure to use current terminology as described in the DSM-5 for neuropsychological disorders. This book is a manual of neuropsychological disorders and the diagnostic criteria needed to make the clinical diagnosis. This reference is used by mental health professionals and will assist you in your assignment this week, as well as all course work in this class. If your disorder is purely neurological, be sure to include current clinical guidelines, diagnostic criteria, terminology, and the neurobiology involved in the pathology, using current guidelines from the appropriate professional societies.

This assignment is an analysis of the neuropsychological disorder that supports your Final Project. You will create an outline of the main points of your Final Project, using your selected neuropsychological disorder as approved by the instructor in Week 1. The Final Project outline will be organized into three sections, each main section having required components. This outline is both an analysis of your topic, as well as a tool to ensure that you are on the right track with your Final Project. The more information you provide, the more feedback you will receive from your instructor, which will be helpful as you write your Final Project.

For this assignment you must:

Complete and submit the Final Project Annotated Outline templatePreview the document to Waypoint.

Use the references you found for the Week 1 assignment and the Week 2 annotated bibliography assignment. You may also use additional references as necessary.

With the exception of the DSM-5, you may cite and reference course materials such as the textbook, required or recommended reading, or multimedia, but these will not fulfill the source requirement.

Please note: This assignment should incorporate information from your Week 1 and Week 2 assignment, but it must expand on that information and use the template provided, which is in the format of an annotated outline.

Your completed Final Project Annotated Outline Template
