Compare the individual’s current cognitive, physical, and psychosocial development to various theories expected norms, and developmental milestones.

Growth and Development Assessment Project Guidelines:

Choose a person you know well and complete a developmental analysis of this person’s current period of development. You can choose a person from any of the developmental stages excluding infancy and toddlerhood. Through observation and communications with the person, assess the individual’s current period of development. Within that specific period of life, provide a detailed comparison of the subject’s physicallycognitiveand psychosocial development to the established norms, developmental milestones, and theories from textbooks and scholastic resources. All three areas of development (physical, cognitive, and psychosocial) must be examined in depth with various theories, established norms, and examples of met and unmet developmental tasks. The assessment is not a chronological lifespan report on a single theorist. It should focus primarily on the individual’s current period of life. However, if the person has unmet tasks, you can examine earlier periods of life influential to the delay.

This analysis needs to be a minimum of 4 completed pages of content (excluding title page, reference page, and charts) and a maximum of 6 pages. Again, be sure to utilize various theories, established norms, and developmental milestones and apply those to all three areas of development of your chosen person.

Objectives:

  1. Summarize an individual’s current period of development according to textbook information and various theorists.
  2. Compare the individual’s physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development to the textbook description, various theories, established norms, and developmental milestones.
  3. Recognize unmet or uncompleted tasks of the individual’s current period of development.
  4. Identify measures to assist the individual to achieve the tasks of his/her stage of development.

Learning Activities:

  1. Select an individual and arrange a time to observed and interviewed.
  2. Review lecture and readings on relevant stages of development.
  3. Observe and discuss with the individual (or parents) specific issues and topics related to physical, cognitive, and psychosocial growth and development.
  4. Prepare a report (4-6 pages) to include the following:
  • Include an overview (introduction) of the individual’s biographical data: ex. age, sex, family structure, living arrangements, occupation.
  • Summarize the theoretical description of the individual’s current period of development.
  • Compare the individual’s current cognitive, physical, and psychosocial development to various theories expected norms, and developmental milestones. Comparisons must be from the required textbook and a minimum of one outside scholastic reference.
  • Recognize which development tasks have been achieved and/or are still unmet. Provide scholastic evidence based on the analysis of the observation and interview to the theories, established norms, and developmental milestones.
  • Indicate measures to assist or maintain the individual’s effort to accomplish age-appropriate developmental tasks.

o Discuss and make meaningful connections between studies with similar processes, populations, outcomes, implications, or other noted similarities (address diversity).  · Diversity (2-3 slides)

The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge of one topic related to trauma, trauma treatment, or crisis intervention. As part of this Powerpoint you will familiarize yourself with MFT trauma related publications and research and you will demonstrate what you have learned so far in this course.

Prepare at least a 17-slide PowerPoint in which you address the following:

· Title Slide

· Background (2-3 slides)

o Discuss the importance of relational support and therapy. (Use the literature to explicate the complexity of relevant factors such as acceptance, listening, non-blaming, shared responsibility, forgiving, disclosure, caring and nurturing).

o provide a rationale for your selected focus, trauma and self of the therapist and/or disasters;

· Literature Review (5-7 slides)

o Describe clinical, theoretical, diversity and empirical evidence for your selected topic (must address diversity).

o Analyze the main results or findings from the literature (the required article reading reference list provides students with a starting point for their literature review. Please see other instructor posted resources).

· Discussion (2-3 slides)

o Discuss and make meaningful connections between studies with similar processes, populations, outcomes, implications, or other noted similarities (address diversity).

· Diversity (2-3 slides)

o Describe cultural/racial and diversity-based dimensions, considerations and role.

· Summary (2-3 slides)

o Provide a succinct and integrated summary (about one sentence per slide).

· Future Directions (2-3 slides)

o Considering what you have described above, critique the literature and describe what gaps seem to be missing in the literature?

o Describe or propose future systemic relational research. Be specific.

· References

Your powerpoint should follow APA guidelines and include references to at least 7 peer reviewed articles.

Identify the inherent differences between quantitative and qualitative evaluations and show competence in data collection and analysis methods for each methodology.

Building off the research problem identified in Week One, students will design a research proposal. The research proposal will be based on the problem identified at a human/social service organization. The organization selected can be one in which the student is currently employed, or where they intend to seek employment. The research proposal project reflects the measures required in submitting proposals to a grant-awarding agency. Examples of grant-awarding agencies include: Corporation for National and Community Service, Department of Health and Human Services, National Institute of Health, Housing and Community Facilities Programs, Homeland Security, Special Delinquency Prevention Program, and Centers for Disease Control Prevention. This research proposal will require the student to:

  1. Select a program to develop, evaluate, or modify and compile a proposal that would be used for grant funding.
  2. Understand qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods, and be able to scrutinize new programs and programs in need of modification for research design strengths and weaknesses.
  3. Identify the inherent differences between quantitative and qualitative evaluations and show competence in data collection and analysis methods for each methodology.

Writing the Research Paper

The Research Paper:

  1. Must be double-spaced and formatted according to the approved APA style guide.
  2. Must include an APA style cover page.
  3. Must include an introductory paragraph with a succinct thesis statement.
  4. Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
  5. Must conclude with a restatement of the thesis and a conclusion paragraph.
  6. Must use APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide to document all sources.
  7. Must include a reference page that is completed according to the approved APA style guide.

Post a strategy that you, as the social work supervisor in the Levy case study video, might use to debrief the social worker after the session described in the video.

As a social worker, you interact with individuals who are at various stages of change in their lives. This may become frustrating for you when clients are struggling to achieve their goals. Thus, it is important for you to develop strategies to process your experiences so that you can maintain your compassion and professionalism. As you consider the strategies you have developed to address these issues, also consider how you might help other social workers to develop such strategies. Perhaps you consulted with your supervisors when you had difficulty processing your emotions in particular situations. As you consider assuming a supervisory role, how might you apply your learning from those experiences to helping those whom you supervise?

For this Discussion, review the Levy case study in this week’s video. Consider how you, as a social worker, might address the challenge of remaining engaged with a client while not letting your emotions affect the interaction. Also, consider how you, as a supervisor, might discuss this topic with a social worker whom you supervise.
