topic not covered in this class that you would liketo learn more about. Broad, general topics to get you started
include Turkish or Ottoman food, sports, fashion, film,theatre, dance, visual arts, architecture, identity, and
political culture.Once you have chosen a broad, general topic, narrow it down to a specific question. For
example: How do people dance at a Turkish wedding? or What kind of foodwas prepared and served in the
Ottoman palace in the 19th century? or Why have I heard a lot about corruption with relation to Turkish soccer
in recent years?Next, researchand explorethe topicusing online resources. Along with finding written sources,
your research must also include something experiential, like trying an art form or dance, reading a poem, short
story, or novel, watching a film or TV show, trying Turkish food, etc. For example, if your question was: How do
people dance at a Turkish wedding?, you might find a tutorial for a particular dance on YouTube. If your
question was: What kind of food was prepared and served in the Ottoman palace in the 19th century?, you
might choose one recipeand attempt to cook it. If your question was: Why have I heard a lot about corruption
with relation to Turkish soccerin recent years?, you might watch a Turkish soccer match.2 Finally, you will write
a summary of 1) what you experienced and 2) what you discovered. In noless than 4 pages (see formatting
guidelines below), describe why you chose the topic, what you learned from your sources (and cite your
sources please!), and what you learned from your experiential research. How did this exploration activity help
you understand something about Turkish or Ottoman culture? How does this compare to your own culture?
